NEW YORK — When Music Industry heavyweights Donnie Klang and Matthew LaPorte built Long Island’s premier artist development factory “The Loft Sound Studio” back in 2011 as a place to nurture and groom up-and-coming vocal talents, it didn’t take them long to put together some of the areas most vibrant young stars and create the potent cocktail of belting beauties known collectively as The Janes. The five-piece vocal powerhouse created quite the buzz with their recent YouTube video History of Girl Groups, receiving coverage on EliteDaily.com and getting a retweet from Republic Records – and in the coming weeks, you’ll get your chance to experience the group LIVE Saturday, May 2nd in The Marlin Room at Webster Hall, 125 E 11th St, New York, NY 10003 and Friday, June 19th with The Como Brothers Band at 89 North, 89 North Ocean Avenue, Patchogue, NY 11772.
Beginning in the Summer of 2014 after arriving at “The Loft” for an open casting-call; Bella, Kelly, Tayla, Llyra, and Jaime began their journey from five individually gifted vocalists to forming the group collectively known as “The Janes” and a movement they called “The Janes Life”, melding their various vocal influences and genres in an effort to “Be relatable to every generation and every style of fan”. With a soulful Pop/R&B style reminiscent of some of the great girl groups of our time, what makes their recent History of Girl Groups video so appealing is their ability to link some of the most influential music throughout the decades together in one flowing medley of harmony and polyphony that includes Destiny’s Child, The Marvelettes, and TLC among others.
What sets The Janes apart from many of the girl groups in recent history however, is their carefully crafted dedications to earlier music with their own touch of modern flare. In another recent video, the girls begin Rihanna, Kanye West, and Paul McCartney’s FourFiveSeconds with a 1950’s doo-wop flare that transitions into a bold hip-hop style more closely resembling the original.
Since their start, the group has steadily matured to knowing each member’s strengths and vocal capacities. In a recent interview, they stated “Musically we have grown tremendously. We now know each girls style and voice much better and know exactly where they fit in each song. We try to portray the vocal ability from each member of the group.”
You can catch the compelling five-piece at one of their upcoming shows, Saturday, May 2nd in The Marlin Room at Webster Hall (Click HERE for tickets) and Friday, June 19th with The Como Brothers Band at 89 North (Click HERE for tickets).
