Tilles Center Event Will Recognize Grammy-winning Musician and SAG Award Nominee for Their Outstanding Contributions to the Arts in A “Salute to the Golden Age of Film and Music”
Brookville, NY (September, 2015) — This October, the Gold Coast Arts Center will have the privilege of honoring two performers who have proven their eclectic talents on both stage and screen, and have won the admiration of millions through their musical prowess, and/or achievements in film and television. Musician/conductor/arranger and music archivist Vince Giordano and Actor/Producer Navid Negahban have both garnered praise for their work on series’ such as HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” and Showtime’s “Homeland” while accomplishing a great deal through their award-winning production work in both genres. On Wednesday, October 28th the two will receive recognition for their many works as “Artists of Distinction” at the Gold Coast Arts Center Gala 2015 being held at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts– 720 Northern Blvd, Greenvale, NY 11548.
Grammy-winner Vince Giordano has played in New York nightclubs, appeared in films such as The Cotton Club, The Aviator, Finding Forrester, Revolutionary Road, and HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, and for concerts at the Town Hall, Jazz At Lincoln Center, the 92nd St Y and the Newport Jazz Festival. Recording projects include soundtracks for the award-winning Boardwalk Empire with vocalist like Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, St. Vincent, Regina Spektor, Neko Case, Leon Redbone, Liza Minnelli, Catherine Russell, Rufus Wainwright and David Johansen. Vince and his band have also recorded for Terry Zwigoff’s Ghost World, Tamara Jenkins’ The Savages, Robert DeNiro’s The Good Shepherd, Sam Mendes’Away We Go, Michael Mann’s film Public Enemies, and John Krokidas’ debut feature, Kill Your Darlings, along with HBO’s Grey Gardens and the miniseries Mildred Pierce. Most recently Vince and the band recorded music for HBO’s Bessie starring Queen Latifah; Cinemax’s The Knick starring Clive Owen; an upcoming Haynes’ film called Carol; and a new pilot for Amazon. The Nighthawks are also seen and heard in the USA Network series Royal Pains and in the PBS series Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook. Hudson West Productions recently completed a feature documentary called “Vince Giordano – There’s a Future in the Past” and they’re in the process of raising funds for music clearance rights.
Giordano’s passion for music from the 1920’s & 30’s and the people that made it began at age 5. He has amassed an amazing collection of over 60,000 band arrangements, 1920’s and 30’s films, 78 recordings and jazz-age memorabilia. Giordano sought out and studied with important survivors from the period; Whiteman’s hot arranger Bill Challis and drummer Chauncey Morehouse, as well as bassist Joe Tarto. Giordano’s passion, commitment to authenticity, and knowledge led him to create a sensational band of like-minded players, the Nighthawks. For over 40 years, Vince Giordano has single handedly kept alive a wonderful genre of American music that continues to spread the joy and pathos of an era that shaped our nation. Navid Negahban was born and raised in Mashhad, Iran. His passion for acting led him to Germany, where he spent eight years honing his theatrical skills prior to arriving in the US. Negahban has been building a strong resume ever since, playing a broad range of intriguing characters for film, theater, and television.
Negahban had a powerful leading role in the stunning dramatic feature The Stoning of Soraya M., and significant supporting roles in American Sniper with Bradley Cooper, directed by Clint Eastwood, Brothers with Tobey Maguire, directed by Jim Sheridan, Powder Blue with Jessica Biel and Forest Whitaker, and Charlie Wilson’s War opposite Tom Hanks, directed by Mike Nichols. On TV, Navid played the chilling Abu Nazir on Showtime’s Homeland, with Damian Lewis and Claire Danes, had a recurring role on the eighth and final season of 24, and guest appearances includeVeep, Person of Interest, Lost, CSI: Miami, Law & Order, Covert Affairs, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

The GCIFF produces a year-round film series featuring an exciting slate of quality films and award-winning talent. This fall, the GCIFF will be celebrating its 5th Anniversary Festival November 9-15, and recently won first place in “The Best of the North Shore” competition as the “Best Attraction” within the region.

Produced by the Gold Coast Arts Center, the festival has built a reputation for bringing the latest Hollywood hits and Indie favorites to the fabled Gold Coast of Long Island. The year before, the Festival honored legendary actor, Paul Sorvino (GoodFellas, Bulworth, The Cooler) with a Lifetime Achievement Award during their Annual Benefit Gala. The Gala also honored Susie Essman, (co-star of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm) with the Artist of Distinction Award for Comedy. Melanie Lynsky (2 ½ Men, Ever After), Emmy Nominated Actor, Jason Ritter (Parenthood), Sean Young and Robert Clohessy were among others who attended the festivities.
