Festival’s Conclusion Saw Film Industry Heavyweights Select Top Independent Films For Honors Ranging From Best Showcase Feature Film to Best Actor in A Leading Role


New York, NY (June, 2017) – This past Thursday, June 22nd the Eighth Annual SOHO International Film Festival #SOHO8 concluded with an Awards Night honoring the nearly one hundred selections in competition throughout the week long event at Village East Cinemas. (FULL LIST OF NOMINEES & WINNERS BELOW)


In a night which awarded the hard work and dedication of its filmmakers, showcased the films, their stars, and those who helped craft the Directors’ visions, the Awards Night Presentation brought an end to what was an exciting 2017 SOHO Film Festival in the true vision of President and Founder Jorge Ballos, and Executive Director and Head of Programming Sibyl Santiago!

This year’s Jury–headed by Carlos Santiago (Director, Jury & Screen Selections Committee)–was composed of a number of widely respected actors/actresses/directors/filmmakers/journalists including Melissa Archer, best known for her performance as Natalie Buchanan on One Life to Live for over a decade and as Serena from Days of Our Lives, who’s done several films, 3 of which have been at SoHo Film Festival; Alan Momeyer, the recently retired Chief Human Resource Officer Emeritus for Loews Corporation–the New York-based corporation which included Loews Theatres and Hotels, for which he was responsible for overall strategy and management–was also former president of Inside Broadway, the Broadway educational program to promote theatre arts in NYC public schools; Sylvia Caminer, an Emmy® Award-winning director who–over the past twenty years–has filmed on five continents, beginning her producing career in the independent New York film scene producing three features for director John Gallagher- Blue Moon, The Deli and Men Lie, is also a SOHO alumni who premiered her very first award winning documentary Tanzania: A Journey Within at the festival in 2011; Ernabel DeMillo, a tenured Journalism Lecturer at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, N.J., who started the Journalism program in 2008 and is the faculty advisor to the school newspaper, the Pauw Wow, which was recently named one of the Top 10 college newspapers in the country and was a reporter and anchor at Fox 5 NYC for 8+ years, and Marci Phillips- head of the New York office covering the entire East Coast talent pool for all ABC Studio shows and most pilots made for the ABC Television Network, who for over fifteen years has cast for ABC and ABC Studio pilots, new series regulars, alternative series, recurring roles and numerous guest star roles.
