EIGHTH ANNUAL SOHO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FULL SCHEDULE JUNE 15TH – 22ND

EIGHTH ANNUAL SOHO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FULL SCHEDULE JUNE 15TH – 22ND

Festival Will Include Top Independent Films From Around the World Along with Q&A Sessions from Writers, Producers, Directors and Stars

New York, NY (May, 2017) – With the SOHO International Film Festival #SOHO8 returning to NYC for seven days of films at Village East Cinemas (189 2nd Avenue on 12th Street) June 15 – 22, 2017, the full schedule of films has finally been announced!

By enticing filmmakers, journalists and cineastes from The US and across the globe, SOHO Film Fest draws audiences to New York City–known for its artistic community and cultural sophistication–helping boost the profile, the sense of pride, and the economy of the local community and the city itself.

“Once again, we received a record number of Premieres, an even larger number of wonderful films with women filmmakers, as well as very strong LGBTQ films.” said Sibyl Santiago, Executive Director and Head of Programming, continuing: “…we don’t seek out films for any niche purpose, they are submitted to us and the films are selected on their own merit. But it does make us very proud as a festival to be able to present these very diverse films for our audience. It is also really exciting and inspiring to screen films from filmmakers who are now collaborating after meeting at past SOHO festivals!”

Among the many titles in this year’s competition will be Opening Night Film “The Broken Ones” from Director Elyse Niblett making its official World Premiere! A Drama about a troubled and closed off young artist in her mid twenties is grappling with being placed by her overbearing mother Janet in a sober living house in the suburbs of New Jersey, the film stars Margaret Colin (“Independence Day”, “The Devil’s Own”), Charlie Bewley (“Twilight”, “Like Crazy”), and attending will be Luke Guldan (“The Good Place”), Constance Shulman (“Orange Is the New Black”, “Fried Green Tomatoes”) with daughter Gus Birney (“The Mist”), along with Alexandra Socha (“Red Oaks”). The New York Premiere of Director Sean Gannett’s new short  “Last Night in Rozzie” starring Mark Feuerstein (“Royal Pains”) and Yara Martinez (“The Tick”) was also chosen to open the program.

With nearly a hundred selections in this year’s festival, other notable films in Exhibition include “Crazy Famous” from Paul Jarrett starring Richard Short (“Vinyl”) and Ajay Naidu (“Office Space”) as well as Documentary “Curiosity, Adventure & Love” from Sunshine Lichauco De Leon and Suzanne Richiardone; Mexican Drama “Dia Seis (Day 6)” from  Juan Pablo Arroyo Abraham starring David Medel (“Here Was the Anthem”) and Andrés Montiel (“Infames”); Tony Glazer’s newest “After Earth” will screen with stars Danny Pudi (“Community”), Lance Henricksen (“Alien”), Neal Bledsoe (“The Mysteries of Laura”), and Diana Degarmo (“Planet 360”) in attendance; “Dead Draw” by Brian Klemesrud starring Gil Bellows (“Shawshank Redemption”), Elizabeth Tulloch (“Grimm”), and Michael Ecklund (“Continuum”); UK Film “Yellow Fever” from Director Kat Moon stars Scott Patterson (“Gilmore Girls”) and Jenna Ushkowitz (“Glee”); LGBTQ Deocumentary “Between the Shades” directed by Jill Salvino stars Kathy Najimy (“King of the Hill”, “Sister Act”); Elias Plagianos’ “Shoot Me Nicely” with Linda Hamilton (“Terminator”), William Sadler (“Shawshank Redemption”), John Behlman (“All My Children”), Jackie Martling (“The Howard Stern Show”) and Josh Burrow (“The Crimson Mask”); Rickard Selvi’s “Oiled Up” stars Chuck Zito (“Sons of Anarchy”), Cathy Moriarty (“Raging Bull”), Vincent Pastore (“Sopranos”), James Mccaffrey (“Rescue Me”), Larry Romano (“King of Queens”) and Eric Roberts (“Dark Knight”); Eric Roberts also appears with Ethan Marten (“Atlantis Down”) in “Eyes of the Roshi” by Jon Mark Nail along with many more!

Features in competition also include this year’s premieres like closing night film “Bardo Blues” from Marcia Kimpton, the story of a man coming to grips with tragedy by escaping to paradise; the U.S. Premiere of Documentary “The Karamazoffs” from Director Juan Gamero; the World Premiere of Polish film “The Eccentrics on the Sunny Side of the Street” about jazzman Fabian, who comes back to Poland from England at the end of the 1950’s and starts a swing band with a group of eccentric musicians with Polish stars Maciej Stuhr, Anna Dymna, Wojciech Pszoniak, Wiktor Zborowska; and the World Premiere of the Movie Musical “Tommy Battles the Silver Sea Dragon” by filmmaker/writer/composer, Luke Shirock.

Adding to the excitement of the event, many of the selected films will hold Q & A sessions with cast & crew members following each screening; along with panels, social events, and other networking opportunities for everyone involved.
